The rue du Bac in the 7th arrondissement of Paris is an old, narrow street that runs from the posh Bonmarché department store down to the Seine river, opening out on the Left Bank of the river directly across from the Louvre Museum. In fact, this street traces the very path that was used centuries ago to transport large limestone blocks quarried nearby down to the river, where they were carried across to the Right Bank on a ‘bac’, or barge, and much of the stone was subsequently used to build the royal Louvre palace itself. The route became well worn over time by the to and fro of wagons carrying heavy stone and eventually this path evolved into a street. Anyone who lives on the rue du Bac these days is a privileged soul, as the street has some of the finest inner courtyards and former ‘hôtels particuliers’ in all of Paris. Discreet, classy, and well situated in the historic center of the Left Bank, the rue du Bac is one of the most desirable residential addresses in the city.

In many of the courtyards and inner recesses on the rue du Bac, the quiet calm that reigns supreme is reminiscent of the countryside. In such a place, it is hard to imagine that you are actually staying in one of the world’s largest cities. Here, the traffic noise from the streets is virtually non-existent. This one bedroom apartment is located on one of these quiet back courtyards full of greenery where there is no urban noise to disturb your sleep. There is even a flourishing convent on the far side of the building, so there is no need to worry about noisy neighbors and late night revelry. This apartment radiates peaceful harmony; yet when you step out the door, you are immediately swept up in the genteel energy of the Left Bank crowds of shoppers as they make their way to La Grande Epicerie gourmet grocery store just up the street in the Bonmarché department store complex. This store is the ultimate Fine Food store in Paris, where you can find most anything and everything that has to do with food and drink that you might want to splurge on.

For someone coming to live in this particular property for a few days, all of the requisite features for a blissful stay are present: a full range of amenities combined with convenience, comfort, and quiet. Sliding doors separate the bedroom area from the living room area. Here you have at your disposal a spacious, fully furnished flat that allows you to spread out, sleep late, cook in, and hit the sites in a matter of minutes. Located on a residential part of the street the apartment is nonetheless situated at the very cusp of one of the major fashion shopping districts of Paris, which runs from the rue St. Placide all the way down to the Boulevard St. Germain. There are also some of Paris’s top second hand prestige brand clothes stores nearby. Lest we forget, there is also a multitude of restaurants, cafés, bars, and food stores in the area, so the problem you may face becomes one of choice, not availability.

The Orsay Museum is only a 10 to 15 minute walk from the apartment, as is the Rodin Museum, the Luxemburg Gardens, and the Louvre Museum. There is nothing like being in the heart of Paris for getting anywhere easily. All of the transportation options are at your fingertips: bus lines, subway lines, taxis, and of course, good old shoe leather remains the most agreeable and economical way to see the city at your own pace.
