Location and nearby sights
The house is surrounded by peaceful, scenic farmland. It’s only 500 metres from the farming village of Trivy and 600 metres from the restaurants and lake at the commune of Chandon.
The village of Dompierre les Ormes, 3 km south, has many shops including bakeries, butchers, a grocery store, wine merchant, restaurants, hairdresser and weekly market. There is a municipal swimming pool for the warmer months.
Food and wine are a feature here, surrounded by the Maconnais wine region, in the midst of the Charolais cattle district with provincial cheeses from local markets and Beaujolais villages just to the south.
Le Champ du Four is less than 30 minutes drive from Cluny and its famous Abbey, Mâcon, the medieval city on the Saone, Beaujolais and its wine villages, Chambertin, a 13th century furnished chateau, walking paths and bike trails along canals and old rail lines.
It is within an hour’s drive from Lyon (the second largest city and the culinary centre of France), Beaune (the beautiful historic city Burgundy is well known for), and Grenoble (gateway to the Alps for hiking in summer and skiing in winter).
And for a slightly longer drive, you are two hours from Geneva, Switzerland for fondue, chocolate and Lake Léman; and Dijon, capital of Burgundy, with its famous mustards and Cote D’Or wines.
There is a TGV fast train from Paris to Mâcon-Loche that takes two hours. We strongly recommend car hire for your stay. Please contact us for a quote to combine with your stay.
